Kiritanpo is a delicacy of Akita Prefecture and consists of cylinders of mashed, freshly boiled new rice, which are then toasted on cedar skewers often over an open flame.

Kiritanpo feature in Japanese nabe (hotpot) and are also eaten coated with miso paste as Kiritanpo Dengaku (see below).

Kiritanpo is usually a fall and winter dish after the rice harvest in September.
